Silence is the greatest teacher.
Start to be curious about the gifts that silence may offer you both on and off your yoga mat or meditation cushion.
Some options for practicing silence this week:
1. Eat a meal of your choice in silence. No conversations, no phone, no TV. Just you and your meal at a table.
2. In a meeting or at an event, refrain from speaking. Rather, listen to others, and begin to notice how much you may communicate without even saying a word.
3. Spend the first and last five minutes of your day in bed in silence and practice a mudra of your choice. If you’re not sure which mudra resonates with you, try connecting the pad of the middle finger to the pad of the thumb while the other fingers remain extended long.
4. Journal at the end of the day to reflect on whatever is bubbling up at that moment. Notice the energy expended on writing your experience rather than speaking it.
5. Walk along a favorite trail or beach without any distractions (no phone, no music). Start to notice the sounds around you that are often experienced only as background noise. Notice their rhythm and energy.
