Did you know that there’s more to yoga than asana or poses? In fact, there’s eight other limbs of Astanga Yoga.
In the next few weeks prior to the new year, follow us on Instagram as we introduce the Yamas. There will even be opportunities to integrate each yama into your daily life! After the new year, we’ll introduce the Niyamas.
In her book The Yamas & Niyamas: Exploring Yoga's Ethical Practice, Deborah Adele beautifully explains the Yamas and Niyamas as jewels: “They are the rare gems of wisdom that give direction to a well-lived and joyful life.” You could think of the Yamas as an exploration into your relationship with others, and the Niyamas as an exploration into your relationship with yourself.
Why study the Yamas before the Niyamas?
Connection is how we first learn and relate to the world, so if we establish joy in relationships with others, it will more easily lead to joy within. The Yamas are also helpful to reflect and study as we gather with friends and family over the holidays. 😉
Are you ready to learn more? Stay tuned for an announcement about future opportunities to dive into a group exploration of the Yamas after the new year!
